The Young Agriculture Network for the West Wimmera

The Young Agriculture Network, hosted by Landcare, will create a social and professional link between young farmers and agribusiness in the West Wimmera.
The aims of the Young Agriculture Network are to:
The role Young Agriculture Network is to provide a social outlet for young farmers and other agriculture professionals in the West Wimmera. It is hoped that a Young Agriculture Network will also provide opportunities for young people who have recently moved, or moved back, to the area to meet other people of their age involved in their profession.
One of the aims of Landcare is to promote sustainable agriculture. A Young Agriculture Network will get farmers and professionals together in social situations and allow them to chat informally about their goals and ambitions for their properties. Sustainable Agriculture is about making a farming business last in the long term, whist being profitable - every farmers aim! A network gives a voice to young farmers and professionals to address professional concerns. For example a network such as this could attract funding for pest control programs such as for weeds or foxes and rabbits.
The Young Agriculture Network will use social media, such as facebook, email and twitter (yet to come) to keep members up to date with up-coming training and information opportunities such as field days and workshops. The network already has a facebook page with 100 members. Here information is posted about field days, workshops and articles that relate to agriculture in the West Wimmera. It's aim is to create a one stop shop where people can go to find out what opportunities are out there for our area.
Contact the Landcare Facilitator on 0423 662 179 or email kftglandcare@gmail.com to find out more about the Young Agriculture Network and up-coming events or to join the mailing list. The Facebook group is a closed group so people can join through searching Facebook for "Young Agriculture Network" and sending a request to join.

Young Agriculture Network - Meet and GreetThe first Young Agriculture Network event was an informal meet and greet held at Edenhope Golf Club on Friday July 20th 2012. The event was well attended by approximately 70 young people involved in Agriculture. The night was fairly informal although a talk on pastures by Jaime Tidy, Naracoorte Seeds, was excellent and gave members a chance to learn about locally proficient pasture species.
The general feedback on the night was to continue with informal, social gatherings as well as some information sessions and training days. |
